Ever since the killing of 46-year-old George Floyd the world has risen up. The Black community has been fed up and done with police brutality long before the Rodney King incident and it seems as George Floyd’s death was the icing on the cake. Despite Floyd’s killing being recorded and clearly showing police officer, Derek Chauvin, suffocating him, it took about one week for this officer to be fired from his job and arrested for third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The part that people don’t understand is that these two worked security night shifts at the same nightclub.
There were reportedly three other officers holding Mr. Floyd down but there is no new news in regards to them at this time.
Protests have been conducted in all 50 states in the United States and in other countries such as Israel, Argentina, UK, and France. The world is standing and rising together as one and even those who are not of color are helping the Black community fight this battle. Just yesterday, June 2, the world took a stand on social media with the hashtag #blackouttuesday to disconnect from work and stand with the community.

Some states, in along with protesting, have decided to partake in looting. Protesters have went against what they call “the white mans businesses” and destroyed and stole most of their property. Stores such as Gucci, Target, Chanel, Walgreens, GameStop, and many others were unfortunately hit. Many stores have decided to close down so that they can possibly avoid being hit during this time of protest. In result of states looting, some governors have enforced a curfew.
At this time, people are “taking shots” at the Dominicans in Dyckman (New York) as a video that has gone viral shows them using the “N” word and going against the protesters. Also on twitter, users are partaking in a controversial hashtag, #bluelivesmatter and #whitelivesmatter that has nothing to do with cops or racists, but K-POP fans.
On a positive note, Floyd “Money” Mayweather has offered to pay for all the expenses of George Floyd’s funeral. As we continue to live in history, the world remembers all of the victims that have passed away due to police brutality and injustice. Enough is enough! SAY THEIR NAMES! BLACK LIVES MATTER!
