Kanye West has supported the current movement for #BlackLivesMatter with a very generous act. The rapper has reportedly given $2 million dollars to the families of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. With this donation he has set up a 529 college savings fund to fully cover the tuition of Gianna Floyd, George Floyd’s daughter and offered to cover the legal costs for the other families. West has also offered to cover the costs of the black-owned businesses that are currently suffering back in his home town, Chicago.
Prior to this kind act, many people were dragging Kanye for remaining silent during this time of protest for the killing of George Floyd. Instead of speaking out, Mr. West decided to take on action and his generous act is much appreciated.
Alongside Kanye’s donation, hundreds gathered in Minneapolis today for Mr. George Floyd’s memorial service. Many celebrities such as Kevin Hart, Ludacris, Master P and Tiffany Haddish were in attendance to this event and Reverend Al Sharpton gave the eulogy.
"The reason we could never be who we wanted and dreamed of being is because you kept your knee on our neck... Like George, we couldn't breathe... You wouldn't take your knee off our neck,” Reverend Al Sharpton stated in his eulogy.
The service ended with 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence to represent the amount of time Mr. Floyd suffered before he had passed. More memorial services will be held over the next few days in both North Carolina and Texas.
